We are definitely off to a later start this year as compared to last year. By this time a year ago, all of our orders were dug and shipped. While it seems like things are running behind schedule this year, in reality things are more on a more normal schedule for south-western Maine – or at least I hope that this is the case.

In previous years, we were digging orders starting around May 15 and finished by Memorial Day weekend. I am hoping that we can do the same this year. It seems that Winter does not want to let go. While taking a drive to Portsmouth, NH yesterday morning, we hit snow that was actually sticking to the roads creating slippery conditions. Thankfully it was gone by the time we headed home by mid afternoon.

At least the daffodils and crocus are finally blooming and creating a bit of spring feeling here in the woods. Perhaps we will be able to get some garden clean-up done this coming week.

Keep smiling everyone.

The snow is almost gone and the spring peepers are finally announcing that spring is here. Along with it came thunder, rain and hail today. At least it ain’t snow. A few beds are still covered in snow and as they are revealed, we can begin doing the clean-up that we didn’t do again last fall.

This is a time of excitement as we see daffodil buds poking up and the first brave tips of daylily foliage peeking out of the soil. I hope that spring is springing where you are and wish you all a great gardening season.
